Kate Duckworth

Occupational Therapist

Kate is the founder and Occupational Therapist at Beginnings OT.

After graduating from the University of South Australia with a Bachelor of Occupational Therapy in 2006, Kate spent a few years working in Vocational Rehabilitation before pursuing a career in Paediatrics.

Kate has spent time working in community Paediatrics in both Australia and the UK, within both senior clinical and leadership roles. Kate’s experience has been developed through roles in government, not for profit and private practice settings.

Kate provides Occupational Therapy intervention to children who present with a range of developmental difficulties and variable diagnoses, specialising in working with children aged 0-6 years.

Kate’s particular interest is working with the team around each child, including their family, carers, educators and other allied health / medical practitioners, within the child’s natural settings. Kate implements a holistic, strengths and interests based approach to strive towards maximal functional outcomes for each individual.

Kate continues to build upon her knowledge and skills through a range of continued professional development opportunities. Relevant additional training undertaken to date includes:

  • Specific toileting interventions training including Conquering the Wees and Poos (basics and beyond the basics) and Talking Toileting

  • Learn to Play (foundation and application) by Karen Stagnitti

  • Trauma informed practice approaches

  • Sensory based intervention approaches, including Traffic Jam in My Brain training

  • Foundations and Neuroscience Sensory Integration training

  • Marte Meo (introductory)

  • Supporting the Occupational Roles of Infants

  • Neuro-affirming principles and practice approaches
